County Services and Operational Changes due to the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19


Cumberland County has implemented additional operational and staffing changes to help reduce the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and to protect the community and staff.

The following changes are effective March 30.

Ann Street Landfill/Solid Waste Management sites

The Wilkes Road Landfill will no longer be open on Saturdays.

Effective April 11, the Ann Street Landfill will no longer be open on Saturdays.  For social distancing, only one lane at the scale house will be open. Please be patient as there may be delays.

All other convenience sites are open on Saturday for residential waste only. NO yard waste or furniture will be accepted at convenience sites.

To reduce the risk from COVID-19, the following visitor protocol will be in place when visiting the Cumberland County Department of Public Health.

These policies will apply to all Cumberland County Department of Public Health locations, including Spring Lake WIC satellite location. 

  • Clinical/patients will be seen in Clinics of the Health Department by appointment only.
  • This includes Medical Records and Environmental Health.
  • Any persons accompanying a patient must wait in their vehicle except for Child Health, WIC and Child Immunization patients. Only those who must accompany a patient will be allowed in the lobby. Limit of one person, per patient in the lobby, clinic and waiting area and/or patient room.
  • Screening of patients, clients and their visitors will take place at a designated screening area near the building entry and away from the waiting area. You will be asked a series of questions about your symptoms, travel history and whether you have had contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. You will have your temperature taken.
  • You may be asked to wear a face mask.

Animal Control – Adoptions are suspended during the next 30 days. No owner surrenders of animals are being accepted. Owners may reclaim pets by appointment only.
