Animal Control

The Cumberland County Animal Control Department enforces all state and local laws pertaining to the ownership, regulation and control of dogs, cats, and other animals within the County. The department is responsible for picking up stray animals, livestock, exotic animals as well as wildlife that poses a threat to health and safety and rabid animals. Animal Control may also be able to assist with severely injured wildlife.

Animal Control officers respond to calls all over the County, check for compliance with rabies vaccination laws, as well as dog and cat license mandates.

The Department also investigates all animal bites as mandated by North Carolina law. If you are attacked or bitten by an animal, call Animal Control at 910-321-6852 during normal duty hours or call the Sheriffs Office at 910-323-1500 ONLY after normal duty hours to report it and try to locate the owner of the animal, if possible. Then seek medical attention if the skin has been broken.
