Animal Control staff will be wearing masks and observing social distance protocol. Animal Control asks members of the public to adhere to face covering and social distancing recommendations while they are in the building.

Pet adoption fees are $28 through the end of July, thanks to a grant from PetSmart Charities.

Animal Control is also changing shelter hours for pet adoptions, stray animal intakes and owner claims. Hours for all three services will be 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday. All services are by appointment only due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Anyone looking for lost pets can view all animals at the shelter on If they see their lost pet on the website, they can call the shelter at 910-321-6852 to schedule a time to reclaim.

The Cumberland County Animal Control Department enforces all state and local laws pertaining to the ownership, regulation and control of dogs, cats, and other domestic animals within the County. The department is responsible for picking up stray animals, livestock, exotic animals as well as wildlife that is inside the living space of a residence or business. Animal Control will also assist with sick or severely injured wildlife. 

Animal Control officers respond to calls all over the County, check for compliance with rabies vaccination laws, as well as dog and cat license mandates.

The Department also investigates all animal bites as mandated by North Carolina law. If you are attacked or bitten by an animal, call Animal Control at 910-321-6852 during normal duty hours or call the Sheriffs Office at 910-323-1500 ONLY after normal duty hours to report it and try to locate the owner of the animal, if possible. Then seek medical attention if the skin has been broken.
