Mayor Colvin and County Chairman Lancaster Issue Joint Statement

Dec 12, 2017

City of Fayetteville Mayor Mitch Colvin and Cumberland County Board of Commissioners Chairman Larry Lancaster have issued the following joint statement:

The City of Fayetteville and Cumberland County have been discussing a consolidated 911 call center for an extended period.

As mayor and commission chairman, we have jointly decided that more time is needed to create an agreement that best serves the citizens and creates a better overall project.

Key elements in the interlocal agreement remain unresolved to the satisfaction of both parties. With the transition of new council members, a new mayor and new commission chair, we did not have enough time to resolve these issues before the December 15 grant deadline.

The City and County will continue to work toward an agreement with the goal of applying during a future funding cycle.

Cumberland County is canceling the special meetings of its 911 Committee on Wednesday, Dec. 13, and full board on Thursday, Dec. 14, to discuss the joint 911 center.
