Circuit Breaker

The Homestead Circuit Breaker is the deferral of property taxes on a permanent residence that exceed a certain percentage of the applicant’s income. 

The applicant must be a North Carolina resident, must be at least 65 years of age or totally and permanently disabled as of January 1, and have owned and occupied the residence in Cumberland County for at least five years as of January 1 of the year application is made.

For 2018 applicants, income for applicant and spouse for 2017 cannot be greater than $44,400. For exclusion amounts, please contact our office at 910-678-7507. To apply, file FORM AV9 and required income statements with the tax office by June 1.
