Your Call to 9-1-1
Dialing 9-1-1 in Cumberland County provides you with direct assistance for medical and fire emergencies.
If you are in need of law enforcement, depending on the location and nature of the incident, your phone call will be connected to dispatch offices of Cumberland County Sheriff, N.C. State Highway Patrol, Fayetteville P.D., Spring Lake P.D., Hope Mills P.D., Ft. Bragg Military Police, Ft. Bragg Fire Department or Womack Army Hospital. We also have direct lines to the 9-1-1 offices for Bladen, Harnett, Hoke, Moore, Robeson, and Sampson Counties.
The very first thing asked of all callers is, "Where is your emergency?" If we lose the phone connection for any reason and no other information is available, we will be able to get help going.
For Fire calls our next question is, "What is on fire?" A three-digit code entered with the location of the call tells the Fire Dispatcher what is on fire so that they can send the appropriate apparatus. We will ask about possible life hazards, chemical hazards, electrical hazards and/or traffic hazards.
Callers requesting ambulances are asked specific questions about the patient to isolate the most important information with the least amount of time lost. The list of questions quickly access the situation so that we can send the most appropriate help the safest way possible. We are then able to turn the caller into the First Responder by providing initial patient care directly over the phone.
