Fee Schedule for the NC Fire Prevention Code

The permits and associated fees set forth in this section are adopted by local ordinance pursuant to the requirements of the NC Fire Prevention Code. Renewal of permits shall be subject to the fees in effect for the period of renewal. These are normally issued after an inspection and correction of any violations.

Fire Inspectors DO NOT deal with billing or collection of fees.

Operational Permits

These permits allow the applicant to conduct an operation or business for which a permit is required by the NCFC.

Construction Permits

These permits allow the applicant to install or modify systems and equipment for which a permit is required by the NCFC. Issued in advance with payment and submittal of all required plans for review. Work cannot start until plans are approved.

State Licensed Faciliites

The fees and permits set forth in this section are for conducting fire prevention inspections and reports pursuant to the provision of NCGS and as adopted by local ordinance. Payment is required in advance and will be issued at the time of inspection provided there are no violations or issued after correction of violations.

Reinspection Fee

The fee set forth in this section will be issued on the occurrence of the second reinspection of a facility. Each inspection will consist of plan reviews where required, an initial inspection, and one reinspection. Each inspection thereafter will constitute a reinspection charge. All efforts will be made by the Fire Marshal's Office to ensure that availability and promptness is made on scheduling inspections. No charge will be assessed by the Fire Marshal's Office if it is determined that the fault lies with the staff of the Fire Marshal's Office. The Fire Marshal shall have the authority to waive this fee as circumstances dictate.

A charge of $25.00 will be assessed for the second reinspection and each concurrent reinspection thereafter.

How Do I Report A Hazard or Violation?

A hazard or violation may be reported at any time. The Fire Marshal's Office will respond to any complaint regarding a life safety hazard, illegal burning or other fire code violation in Cumberland County. These may be reported directly to the Fire Marshal's Office during normal business hours.

The Cumberland County Emergency Communications Center provides an emergency phone number for the reporting of immediate life safety problems in Cumberland County, i.e., locked exits, overcrowding, etc., which occur or are reported after normal business hours, on holidays or on weekends.

Call 678-7640 Monday through Friday 8:00 am through 5:00 pm.

Call 483-5467 5:00 pm through 8 am weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Call 486-1541 Monday through Friday 8:00 am through 5:00 pm and ask for the Air Quality Division to report illegal burning in the County.

All complaints will require the following information to be recorded in order to be processed:

  1. Name of person filing complaint
  2. Address and phone number of person filing complaint
  3. Location of area of complaint
  4. Type of problem/violation

A written record of all complaints is maintained in the Fire Marshal's Office, however, all names are kept strictly confidential and are not released to the general public.
