The Information Services Department is responsible for design, implementation,
and support of Cumberland County's technology infrastructure by providing
reliable responsive, cost-effective technology services.
While the entire Information Service Department is united as one team serving the
needs of Cumberland County, there are specialized groups that provide specialized
expertise in their respective functional areas. By providing
network services,
application services,
GIS services,
and technical support services, we are
able to provide a wide range of capabilities. These range from developing new custom
software systems (supported in-house), to designing leading edge voice and data
networks for newly constructed County Buildings.
The network services group manages
large-scale information technology networks and systems, which include telephony,
data networks, network monitoring and management. This group also maintains antivirus/spam
control, develops reports on key performance indicators; and implements best practices,
supports server and desktop services, including server problem diagnosis and resolution.
Members of this group play a large role in the infrastructure design and implementation
during the construction of new County buildings as well as the renovation of existing
offices.
The application services group
offers a range of life-cycle development services from requirements through deployment
of solutions. The applications span numerous technologies and needs ranging
from web-based applications and client/server applications, to large mainframe applications.
Many internally-developed systems and vendor solutions are hosted and supported
by the application team. This includes project management, design and development,
website hosting and support, database management, intranet, integration of information
between systems, operation of the county mainframe, scheduling, printing, hardware/software
maintenance and upgrades, and system analysis.
The GIS (Geographic Information Systems) services group
acts as the lead agency for Countywide GIS planning, coordination and development. This group provides
and coordinates GIS support for multiple County Departments. GIS also provides a timely array of quality
geographic and demographic related data, services and support to the County governmental
infrastructure, its citizens, the private sector, and other governmental entities.
The technical service
support group provides desktop support and server problem diagnosis and
resolution, asset management, manages help desk, confirmation issues to windows
server support, password change requests, establishing specs and ordering of computer
equipment.
