Cumberland County Pretrial Services serves the fourth largest metropolitan area in North Carolina with an area population of approximately 300,000 and Fort Bragg - one of the world's largest military complexes.

The Pretrial Release Program in Cumberland County was established in 1975. In 1992, a home monitoring program was implemented thus creating enhanced pretrial release. Although the primary goal of the agency is to aid in reducing the jail population by recommending the release of qualified defendants, the agency also provides the Cumberland County Court System with a variety of services, such as the preparation of affidavits and Fact Finding Reports. This expanded role required the Pretrial Release Program to adopt its present name, Pretrial Services.
