Acceptable Items at Container Sites
All Cumberland County residents (except Town of Spring Lake, Fort Bragg, and Pope AFB residents) may use the container sites for weekly disposal of personal household / yard waste.
All Cumberland County and Town of Spring Lake residents may use the container sites for recycling.
Each resident may only take up to 4 cubic yards* of waste to a container site weekly. If you have additional waste you need to take the waste to the appropriate landfill.
The following list clarifies what may and may not be disposed of at Container Sites:
Acceptable Items
- Household Waste (kitchen / bathroom garbage)
- Recyclable Items:
- Aluminum/Aluminum Cans
- Batteries (automotive)
- Cardboard (corrugated and food boxes)
- Metals (must be able to put in container box)
- Newspaper (no plastic wrap or string)
- Magazines
- Textile (belts, blankets, curtains, dry clothing, hats, household items, paired shoes, pocket books, and towels)
- Tires (no rims, limit of five (5) tires per household and 10 tires per farm per year)
- Used Oil (containing no foreign liquids or debris, 5-gallon limit - container must be left at site)
- Yard Waste (grass, leaves, pine straw, brush & limb clippings - may not exceed 4 cubic yards per week; limbs larger than 3 inches in diameter and 3 feet long must be taken to Wilkes Road)
- Computers
- Plastic (bottles, jugs, and jars)
- Glass (brown, clear, green separated)
- Office Paper (accepted at Ann Street only)
Unacceptable Items
- Acids
- Commercial or Industrial Waste
- Compressed Gas Cylinders
- Construction or Demolition Waste
- Dead Animals
- Hazardous Waste
- Hot Ashes
- Liquids (other than waste oil)
- Furniture
- Poisons
Large appliances (White Goods) are accepted at the following sites:
The following activities will not be allowed at Container Sites:
- Animals Roaming Freely
- Scavenging
- Loitering
- Children under 12 years not allowed outside of vehicles
* Total quantity not to exceed 4 cubic yards per week
