Tax Bill Payment Options
Cumberland County offers several options for paying your taxes.
Exceptions - Online and Phone payment options will occasionally
be unavailable due to system maintenance.
- Pay Online with the electronic transfer of funds from
your checking account (e-check)
- No processing fee is charged for using the e-check payment option.
- You can make full or partial payments on your tax bills.
NOTE: On blocked DMV tags the taxes must be paid in full to remove the block.
- You will need to have your bank routing number, account number, type of account, and authorized users name.
Business checking accounts must have a federal ID number and the business name.
- North Carolina General Statute 105-357 provides that a penalty of $25.00 or 10% of the amount of the check OR
electronic draft (e-check), whichever is greater, will be charged for checks returned due to insufficient funds.
Tax receipts are null and void if payment is made with a check that is returned unpaid by the bank.
- The Scheduled Payments feature allows you to
set up a user profile and schedule payments to be drafted
from your checking account automatically.
- This payment option is normally available between the hours of 8:00 am and 9:00 pm.

- Pay Online with an American Express, Discover, MasterCard or Visa credit or debit card
– see
below concerning 'Visa Tax Payment Compliance'.
- A convenience fee is charged by a third party provider for all online payments made by a credit or debit card. Cumberland County does not receive any portion
of this fee associated with this service. See FEE CHART
- The amount of the convenience fee is based on the specific type of payment card you use, and your card will not be
charged until after you have accepted the convenience fee amount. If you choose not to pay the fee, you may cancel
the transaction and pay by another method.
- If you accept the convenience fee and elect to continue, your credit card statement will show two charges; one for the
taxes and one for the convenience fee. This fee is not refundable once you accept the fee.

- For the purpose of computing interest, tax payments submitted by mail shall be deemed to be received as of the date shown on the
postmark affixed by the U.S. Postal Service. Postmarks that are missing or not legible shall be deemed to be received on the date
the payment is received by the Tax Collector. A postal meter stamp affixed by an individual or a business is not considered as affixed
by the U.S. Postal Service
- Pay using your personal Online Bill Pay System:
- Please verify and update the tax bill number for your online BillPay account number on file with your bank, as tax bill numbers
can change annually and bill numbers will be different for your real and personal property taxes.
- Your BillPay account number should match the bill number on your tax bill payment coupon for each payment submitted.
Failure to update your tax bill number on your BillPay account with your online banking program may result in a delay
crediting the payment to your account and may result in added interest due.
- NOTE: These payments are delivered by the U.S. Postal Service without a postmark; therefore, the payment shall be deemed to be
received on the date the payment is received in the office of the Tax Collector.

- Pay in Person:
- Our office is located at 117 Dick Street, Room 527, Fayetteville NC, 28301
- Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 excluding holidays.
- Please bring your entire tax bill with you when paying in person.
- NEW! You may now pay your taxes using your credit or debit card at the payment counter in our office. The same
convenience fees will apply as listed in the fee chart. This fee is not a part of your tax bill and Cumberland County
does not receive any of these fees.
- The cashiers are NOT able to process payments at the payment counter for electronic check drafts (e-checks).

Visa Tax Payment Compliance
Our Processor, Voice Data solutions is in compliance with
the VISA TAX PAYMENT PROGRAM, where the convenience fee is a charge of $3.95 per transaction for property tax bills paid using a Visa Consumer
Debit Card only.
If at anytime you are accessing the telephone or online payment systems and decide you do not wish to pay the convenience fee, you may exit the
phone system or empty your payment cart to cancel the transaction. Remember, there is no fee for paying by Electronic Check Draft.
