The Cumberland County Department of Public Health has hired Adrian Jones as the Environmental Health Director effective Dec. 9. Jones succeeds long-time Director Daniel Ortiz who left the Department in May of this year.
Jones has nearly 18 years of experience in the Environmental Health field. Most recently, he served as an Environmental Health program specialist for the Cumberland County Health Department.
As a program specialist he was responsible for permitting mobile food units and pushcarts and issuing transitional permits. Jones also served as the environmental health quality coordinator in which he identified discrepancies and errors by reviewing inspection reports and other documents to ensure violations were being properly marked and that correct rules were being cited.
Jones earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Fayetteville State University. He has been a member of professional organizations such as National Environmental Health Association and Southeastern District Environmental Health Association. In 2016, he received the North Carolina Public Health Association All Star Award.
