Two Voter Photo ID Seminars on June 18, ID Cards Available at Board of Elections

Jun 14, 2019

The Cumberland County Board of Elections will hold two educational seminars about voter photo identification requirements on Tuesday, June 18. Residents are invited to attend either of the sessions being conducted by the N.C. State Board of Elections. The seminars are free, open to everyone and expected to last about one hour.

  • 2 p.m. at North Regional Branch Library, 855 McArthur Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28311
  • 6 p.m. in the Ballroom of the Crown Coliseum, 1960 Coliseum Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28306

The Photo ID requirement is not in place for any election in 2019.

Beginning in 2020, voters will be required to provide photo identification before they vote. This includes both in-person and by-mail voting, with some exceptions. In November 2018, North Carolina voters approved an amendment to the N.C. Constitution to require voters to present photo ID at the polls.

Voters may request a NC Voter ID card online or in person at the County Board of Election, 227 Fountainhead Lane. The office is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information on the voter ID requirement in North Carolina, go to www.ncsbe.gov/Voter-ID.

Session Law 2018-144 requires each county board of elections to hold at least two voter ID seminars before Sept. 1, 2019. Attendees also will receive information about voting options, including absentee-by-mail, One-Stop early voting and Election Day voting. Information about provisional voting, the availability of free North Carolina voter ID cards and residency requirements for voting also will be provided.
