Animal Control Clear the Shelter Event Saturday, Aug. 17

Aug 12, 2019

The Cumberland County Animal Shelter is partnering with WRAL and Mix 101.5 for the nationwide Clear the Shelters pet adoption event Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On this day only, the shelter, located at 4704 Corporation Drive, Fayetteville, will waive adoption fees for dogs and cats.

All standard adoption policies and procedures will still apply during this event. All adopters must have a photo ID and be at least 18 years old. Only two pets will be adopted per household during the event. All adoptions will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The shelter is anticipating a large crowd, so potential adopters should come early.

Normal pet adoption fees range from $68 to $117 based on the animal’s gender and weight. As with normal fees, the waived fees will cover a rabies vaccination, pet privilege license, microchip and spay or neuter operation.

Most of the animals at the event will have already had heartworm and FeLV/FIV testing and been spayed or neutered. Any animals that have not been spayed or neutered will not be able to leave the shelter until the procedure is completed. This means adopters may not be able to take a pet home on Saturday, but the adoption fee will still be waived.

“We are very pleased and excited to be participating in Clear the Shelters this year. We are happy to help adoption be more affordable by waiving our regular fees that day, so that new owners can put that money toward other pet necessities such as heartworm preventative, flea control and of course toys,” said Cumberland County Animal Control Director Elaine Smith. “Adopters should remember that pets are a great responsibility and they should be sure that they are ready to take care of that pet before adopting.”

Attendees at the event will also have an opportunity to “Paw it Forward” by donating to the shelter’s Injured Animal fund, Veterinary fund, or Pet Enrichment fund so that future shelter animals will benefit from the event as well. Donations can also be made online at licensepet.com/cumberlandcountyncdonate.
