Emergency Services Receives Grant for Debris Removal Activities in the Town of Linden

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The North Carolina Soil and Water Conservation Commission approved a $78,100 grant to Cumberland County to remove excessive vegetation in and around a stream that flows through the Town of Linden to prevent flooding.

The Emergency Management division applied for the grant through the Watershed Initiatives – Streamflow Rehabilitation Assistance Program (StRAP). The initiative's goal is to prevent future flooding by promoting projects that protect and restore the integrity of drainage infrastructure.

Linden experienced flooding in the area around the stream during Hurricane Florence in 2018. The funds will go towards clearing vegetation and storm debris in this stream which empties into the Little River, part of the Cape Fear River Basin.

"We appreciate the North Carolina Department of Agriculture for allocating these funds to Cumberland County," said Emergency Management Coordinator Garry Crumpler. "We look forward to working with our partners in the Town of Linden to decrease the chances of flooding by reducing the amount of debris and vegetation in the stream."
