County Reopens Buildings to Public May 3, Libraries Will Phase In Services

Apr 21, 2021

County Manager Amy Cannon has announced that all Cumberland County Government Buildings will reopen to the public on May 3. Masks will continue to be required in all County facilities and social distancing will be practiced.

In-person services have been limited in most County departments since March 2020 to protect the health of our residents and employees. Departments have provided services by telephone, email and web applications, as well as through appointments for in-person assistance.

“We are prepared and ready to reopen our doors to the public. I am proud of our employees for their dedication to the County’s mission of providing services and how they adapted to the new work challenges during a prolonged pandemic,” Cannon said.

Libraries Open for 45-minute sessions
The eight Cumberland County Public Library locations will resume services in phases. Beginning May 3, all eight locations will be open to customers for 45-minute sessions Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The libraries will continue to offer curbside pick-up service at all eight branches.

During the Phase 1:

  • Customers may call 910-483-7727 starting April 30 to make appointments. After May 3, customers may also walk up to the libraries to make appointments.
  • Appointments will be for up to 45 minutes, beginning at the top of the hour. At 15 minutes before the top of each hour, customers will be asked to leave the building so staff can clean and wipe down high-touch areas.
  • Customers may browse the stacks and a variety of “grab-and-go” book bundles will be available near the service desks.
  • Computers that are socially distanced will be available for use.
  • Curbside pick-up service will continue.
  • Copy, scan and fax services will continue to be staff mediated.
  • Virtual programming will continue.
  • Meeting rooms, in-person programming, Book-a-Librarian sessions and the Mobile Outreach Service will not be available during Phase 1.

Department of Social Services
The Department of Social Services at 1225 Ramsey Street will open for normal operations from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting May 3.  However, citizens may continue to apply for public assistance programs (Food and Nutrition, Medicaid, Child Care and Work First) remotely without visiting the building. Information on the various ways to apply for assistance is available at ccdssnc.com.

Applications and other forms may be picked up and dropped off at the North Entrance to the building.
