Cumberland County - The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners and the Cumberland County Parks and Recreation Department will pay tribute to former County Commissioner J. McN. Gillis Wednesday, December 13th at Lake Rim Park. A ceremony will be held at 10 AM during which county officials will name the administrative building at the park The J. McN. Gillis Visitor and Information Center. Mr. Gillis served on the Board of Commissioners from 1950 to 1974 and again from 1976 to 1986. His last stint on the board was for nearly a year in 1988 when he was selected to serve out a term of another Commissioner. In all, Mr. Gillis served 35 years on the board. The Gillis family has had strong ties to the western portion of the county where Lake Rim Park is located for many years. County officials thought it only fitting to pay tribute to Mr. Gillis in this manner for his years of dedication and commitment to the betterment of the entire local community. "In my 48 years living in Cumberland County, I can think of no public servant who is any more deserving or who has given any more of their time and energies to Cumberland County than Mr. Mac Gillis," says Commission Chairman Lee Warren. "He is a very deserving individual and a wonderful man as well as citizen of Cumberland County."
