Easter Fun for Free at
Cumberland County's Arnette Park

The Easter Scramble is not breakfast, and it’s no ordinary egg hunt. The Easter Scramble is the 90’s way for today’s youth (ages 3 - 12) to have a great time. No more hunting for smelly boiled eggs that kids won’t eat anyway. With the “Scramble” candy and prizes are scattered in plain sight on the ball fields of Arnette Park. Participants are placed in age appropriate categories behind the starting line and when given the word they “Scramble” out on the ball field gathering candy and prizes. Age categories include 3-4, 5-6, 7-9, and 10-12. Parents are allowed on the field with the 3-4 and 5-6 age groups, however parents are not allowed to gather candy or prizes.

Still that’s not all for this one-day special event. Other activities include face painting, games, clowns, concessions and miniature golf. The Easter Bunny has been contacted to make a special appearance and a photo opportunity will be made available for those who bring their own camera. The Cape Fear Croc (mascot for Fayetteville’s pro baseball team), Puck the Dragon (mascot for Fayetteville Force), McGruff the Crime Dog and Stormee (mascot for Cumberland County Storm Water Utility) are also planning to be in attendance. This is one day sure to be full of family fun. In previous years there have been over 900 participants and around 2,000 people in attendance.

The Cumberland County Parks and Recreation Department, WFLB (96.5), Sprint, Ramsey Street Wal-Mart, Target, and other community agencies sponsor this event. Registration starts at 10:00 a.m. and “Scramble” begins at 11:00 a.m. The Fourth Annual Easter Scramble is scheduled for Saturday, April 15, 2000 at Arnette Park located off exit 100 on Martin Luther King Freeway. Arnette Park is a 100-acre facility that offers an assortment of outdoor facilities which include picnic areas, nature trails, an 18 hole disc golf course, sports fields, horseshoe pits, a children’s playground, tennis and sand volleyball courts. Plan to bring a picnic and stay the whole day.

Event is FREE for all but you must be registered to participate. In case of rain call our Inclement Weather Report at 306-7325. For more information on this or other activities call our new Program Hotline at 678-5723 or our office at 485-3161.
