Baby at Health Department Arrest

Cumberland County, NC; Investigators from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Juvenile Division, with the assistance of the Cumberland County District Attorney's office, have made an arrest this evening in the case of the newborn baby boy left at the Cumberland County Health Department on Monday morning. Investigators received a phone call from an unknown caller that stated the identity and address of the baby's mother this morning.

Charged with misdemeanor child abuse is Talshica "Shica" Yumico Early, 19 YOA of 703 Campbell Terrace in Fayetteville. She is currently in the Cumberland County Jail under a $15,000 secure bond. Her first appearance will be October 3rd at 9 a.m. in the Cumberland County Courtroom 2B.

The baby boy, nicknamed "Jarrod" by the Department of Social Services, is still in the Pediatrics Unit of Cape Fear Medical Center. He is reported to be in stable condition.

The investigation continues both by the Sheriff's Office and the Department of Social Services. Should additional charges be filed, they will be released through this office.
