For Immediate Release September 18, 2000 --Press Release from Sheriff Butler--
Cumberland County, NC; This morning at approximately 0800, a newborn baby was discovered alive by county employees in the entranceway of the Cumberland County Health Department, which is located at 227 Fountainhead Lane in Fayetteville. The baby, a black male, was wrapped up in a bag. The infant was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center by ambulance, where he was admitted to the Pediatrics Unit. His condition at 1130 was reported to be "good" and his weight is approximately 6 pounds. The Sheriff's Office and the Department of Social Services have initiated a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the infant's abandonment. At this current time, no information is available pertaining to a suspect in this case. As more information develops on this case, it will be released through the Public Information Office of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.
