New Cumberland County Manager Named

James E. Martin has been named the new Cumberland County Manager by the Board of Commissioners. Martin, who has served as Deputy County Manager for the last five years, was named to the position during this morning's Commissioners' meeting.

Martin will replace Clifford G. Strassenburg who is retiring after 27 years with the county October 1st.

Martin has served as County Manager in Robeson County as well as Hoke County. "I am honored and humbled by their decision," said Martin. "I look forward to serving in the role as County Manager and will do my best to continue to move this county forward."

According to commissioners, Martin's experience in the top spot in other counties plus his on the job training as Cumberland County's second in command, made him a natural first choice.

Martin will assume the position October 1st.
