Announces Contest Winners

Computer Resource Trivia Contest

In celebration of National Library Week, CCPL&IC awarded Cindy Rogers with the Computer Resource Trivia Contest grand prize of a $50 gift certificate from Best Buy.

During the month of March, library customers were invited to enter the contest by completing a list of questions about the library’s computer resources. Qualifying entries were included in a drawing at each library location to win a mouse/wrist pad pack. Branch drawing winners were then entered in the Grand Prize Drawing.

The Very Best Place to Start Rap Contest

Cumberland County High School students were invited to compose a rap about the library that included the phrase, The Very Best Place to Start. The winning rap was written and recorded by Daniel Slankard, a student at Reid Ross Classical School. Daniel received a gift certificate to a local music store and is scheduled to perform the rap at a Teen Talent Showcase to be held on Friday, April 27 at 7:00 pm at the Headquarters Library. The rap will also be featured on the library’s web site. The lyrics of the winning rap are included below.

This is the place to be, so send a message to your friends
The best place to begin and the smartest place to end
In this nation, education is the key to your success
You should look to read a book if you're planning to be the best
Any book you want, if you need it, they have it
So go every other day until you see it's a habit
It's automatic
If you want knowledge, you’ve got to get up and grab it
Because your mind is like a drum, and what you know is like a mallet
Take time after school
Help your mind to improve
Keep yourself informed about the times and the news
So learn what you can and save it for a rainy day
Other things can fade away
But nobody can take your brain away

Books and movies and audiotapes
You can check them out today and keep them until a later date
No matter what your age, your gender or race
No matter what you're looking for, this is the end of your chase
The Library, the very best place to start

If you're trying to educate your mind, body, and heart
So take an hour out of your day to save some peace and quiet
And if reading is not your thing, I suggest you try it
It's gonna be a guaranteed way for you to get smart
