 Events Currently Being Planned Through the Public Information Office of the Sheriff's Office

- Friday, March 2nd at 10 a.m. the Sheriff and the Homicide Unit of
the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office will offer the media/public an update
of the investigation surrounding the death of "Baby Michael". The newborn
boy died on March 3rd, 1999 on the side of Cannady Pond Road in Grays Creek,
where he was found by passing motorists. Investigators from the Homicide
Unit will be updating the press on the status of the investigation and be
available for questions. The press conference will be in the Assembly Room
of the Sheriff's Office, located at 131 Dick Street in Fayetteville.
- Saturday, March 3rd (12 Noon) will be the date of a second memorial
service at Hair's Chapel Church in Linden in honor of Baby Michael. Members
of the church are coordinating a brief service in the church on Duck Pond
Road in Linden. The Reverend Earl Swinson (910) 897-3257 is organizing this
year's service and pledges to continue to honor the infant on this date
until his death is solved. Media may contact this office or the Reverend for
more information relating to the service. The public is both invited and
encouraged to attend this memorial service.
- Thursday, March 8th at 3:30 p.m. (until 5 p.m.) members of the
Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce's "Leadership Fayetteville" program will be
touring exhibits presented by departments within the Sheriff's Office at the
Training Complex site (located behind the Crown Coliseum off Highway 301).
The participants will view the Sheriff's Office Mobile Command Post, Arson
Devices, Gang Paraphernalia, the Search and Rescue Unit, as well as
demonstrations from the K-9 Unit and Special Response Team.
