For Immediate Release July 31, 2001
For the second year in a row, a Cumberland County agency is slated to receive a Ralph W. Ketner Productivity Award. Cumberland County CommuniCare, Inc. is one of ten $1,000 award recipients statewide being recognized for efforts to improve productivity at the upcoming NC Association of County Commissioners Conference August 8-12, 2001. CommuniCare serves as the administrative umbrella agency for a number of local programs to include the Juvenile Assessment Center, the Youth Leadership Development Program, the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, the East Cumberland Youth Enrichment Project. Communicare was chosen to receive the award because of its ability to house the administrative services for multiple agencies under one roof. Thus, saving money and allowing much needed program resources to go directly into services instead of overhead costs. The Cumberland County Manager's Office is credited for developing the local CommuniCare project. The award presentation is traditionally part of the NC Association of County Commissioners Annual Conference. Last year, the Cumberland County Mental Health Center took home a Ketner Award. And in 1995, the Cumberland County Day Reporting Center was a recipient. For ten years now, Ralph Ketner, the former CEO of Food Lion, Inc. has contributed $10,000 to be awarded to county agencies and programs across the state. |
