Cumberland County Public Library & Information Center
Installs Wireless Computer Networks

Four locations within the Cumberland County Public Library & Information Center (CCPL&IC) system are being equipped with wireless computer networks as a result of a $10,000 grant from the Gates Foundation. These networks will allow the library locations to increase the number of computers that are available for use by the public.

Installation of the wireless network has been completed in a new computer training lab at the Headquarters Library and at the Cliffdale Branch Library, and is scheduled for completion at the Bordeaux Branch by March 8 and the Hope Mills Branch by March 15.

The wireless networks will be put into use immediately at three of the four locations. Use of the wireless network system in the training lab at the Headquarters Library will be delayed until the arrival of new Gates Foundation Grant computers in May 2001. Public computers will continue to be available for use at the Headquarters Library using the existing network.

The newer library facilities, including the North Regional, East Regional, and Spring Lake Branches, were equipped with up–to–date networks at the time of construction and will not require wireless networks to accommodate the additional Gates Foundation Grant computers.
