Cumberland County
E-911 Addressing System
Gets World-wide Exposure

Cumberland County's E-911 Addressing System is getting world-wide attention thanks to an article posted on the Web site of MapInfo Corporation, a software technology company based in New York.

The article applauds Cumberland County for utilizing MapInfo's easy-to-use yet powerful PC-based mapping software to swiftly pinpoint the location of every emergency and then guide the response team to its scene. This exposure positions Cumberland County to be used as model for E-911 planning all over the world.

The project is a collaborative effort between two county departments. E-911 planners in the Planning and Inspections Department worked with the E-911 dispatchers in the Emergency Services Department to implement the state of the art system.

With the sophisticated MapInfo technology, the county has dramatically decreased its response time for the more than 10,000 E-911 calls it receives per month.
