Local Library Launches
StartSquad Kids’ Portal

The Cumberland County Public Library & Information Center will launch a brand–new kids’ portal site, StartSquad, created by North Carolina librarians to help children surf the Internet. The site, http://www.startsquad.com/index.asp?site_id=64, features special links available according to age and offers kids and parents a way to navigate the web, using selected links for challenging young minds.

StartSquad has been developed with input from kids, and features links to a wide variety of sites such as Britannica.com for middle schoolers engaging in research. The site will be available from any computer with Internet access beginning November 1, 2001. Kids or parents can access the portal at the library or by logging on to the library’s website at http://www.cumberland.lib.nc.us from any computer with Internet access.

This project is 100% supported with Federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources.
