Celebrates National County Government Week
April 7 - 12, 2002

Cumberland County joins thousands of counties across the nation in celebrating National County Government Week April 7 - 12, 2002.

The National Association of Counties (NACo) established this special week-long observance 12 years ago as a way to educate citizens about the importance of county government.

One of the highlights of a week full of activities is "Chat with County Government Day," Wednesday, April 10th. This is an opportunity for citizens to chat on-line, via their computer, with various county departments.

Anyone with questions or concerns about certain aspects of county government will be able to address them to the respective departments at a designated time:

8 - 9 a.m.

Commissioners' Office - Chairman Breeden Blackwell

9 -10 a.m.

Manager's Office - James E. Martin, Juanita Pilgrim & Cliff Spiller

10-11 a.m.

Animal Control - Monroe Rascoe, Jonny Smith

11-12 Noon

Solid Waste - Charles Whittenton

12- 1 p.m.

Emergency Services - Doc Nunnery

1- 2 p.m.

Parks & Recreation - Larry Philpott & Karen Brady

2 -3 p.m.

Citizens will be able to log onto the Cumberland County Web site, www.co.cumberland.nc.us. A button on the homepage will lead citizens to the chat room featuring the designated county departments.

In addition, the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners will be honoring veteran county employees who have more than 15 years of service with Cumberland County Government in a special ceremony and reception on Monday, April 8th designated as "Honor Our Own Day." And all county employees are encouraged to show off their county paraphernalia on Friday, April 11th, which is "Wear Your Pride Countywide Day."
