The Department of Public Health reports 100 new COVID-19 cases since the Tuesday report. Cumberland County's case count is now 4,382 with 70 deaths.
Cumberland County currently has 128 cases per 10,000 residents with 6.9% of those tested returning positive for COVID-19.
According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) COVID-19 dashboard, of the 70 deaths:
- 80.6% were age 65 and older
- 68.7% were male
- 58.2% were African American
- 74.6% were hospitalized
- 88.1% had at least one comorbidity
- 49.3% lived in a congregate living setting
STD Clinic Begins Telehealth Services
Beginning September 10, the Health Department’s Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Clinic will begin offering telehealth appointments on Thursdays and Fridays by appointment only. The STD Clinic will continue to offer in-person visits by appointment only, Monday through Wednesday of each week.
To schedule a telehealth appointment in the STD clinic:
- Call 910-433-3600 and ask for a telehealth appointment on a Thursday or Friday.
- You will receive consent forms via a secure email. Electronically or physically sign the consent forms and email them back to the Health Department prior to your appointment.

Find a quiet and private space for your telehealth appointment. We encourage you to find a space where you are comfortable discussing confidential health information with a healthcare provider, just as if you were in an exam room. All telehealth and in-person visits are free regardless of your insurance status.
Telehealth is the use of technology for health care appointments and services. It allows you to “see” your doctor without having to go to the doctor’s office. It is a Medicaid covered benefit. Telehealth is a great way to take care of your health without having to leave your home. Using telehealth instead of traveling to your doctor’s office can help protect you and others from COVID-19.
NC Medicaid Information
NC Medicaid is reimbursing COVID-19 testing costs for individuals without insurance who enroll in the NC Medicaid Optional COVID-19 Testing (MCV) program. This option was made available to all states through Section 6004(a)(3) of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA). Enrolled MCV beneficiaries will also qualify for coverage of COVID-19 tests retroactive to June 1, 2020 provided they were uninsured at the time of the test.
To be eligible, an individual must:
- Live in North Carolina
- Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national or have eligible immigration status
- Not be covered by Medicaid, Medicare or other health insurance
Individuals may apply online for the MCV program in English or Spanish at https://epass.nc.gov/nf-apply-for-covid-testing/overview. The online application also is available on a mobile device. You can also download and mail your application. Applications are available in English and Spanish. Testing is always free at the Cumberland County Health Department test sites.
