What is a community/feral cat?
A feral cat is an unowned cat living outdoors that typically avoids human contact. They usually live in family groups called colonies and can be found anywhere there is food. If taken to the shelter, they are highly unlikely to be adopted, and usually must be euthanized.
What is Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release and how does it work?
Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release (TNVR) is the humane option for reducing community cat populations. Feral cats are trapped, transported to Animal Services to be spayed or neutered and vaccinated for rabies and other diseases and then returned to where they were trapped. This technique helps cats live healthier and improves lives. In turn, the community benefits because the feral and community cat population stabilizes and declines over time.
