Cumberland County and the City of Fayetteville have approved a joint resolution establishing the framework for a unified Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). The next phase of the project focuses on developing an interlocal agreement that will guide implementation of the Joint 911 Communications Center.

The Joint 911 Center reflects a shared commitment by Cumberland County and the City of Fayetteville to strengthen emergency communications for every resident of our community. As implementation moves forward, both governments remain committed to transparency, collaboration and providing timely updates throughout the process.

What Happens Next?

Over the next 60 days, representatives from Cumberland County and the City of Fayetteville will work together to develop an interlocal agreement that will establish:

  • Employee transition protections

Following completion, the agreement will be presented to both governing bodies for consideration.

How Will the Joint 911 Center Work?

  • Joint Governance Board: Provides policy oversight, accountability, and long-term direction.
  • Operations Committee: Made up of public safety professionals and end users who provide operational expertise and recommendations.
  • Administrative Unit: Cumberland County will initially provide financial, personnel, and administrative services established through the interlocal agreement.
