No person or business shall knowingly dispose of the following solid wastes in the Subtitle-D and C&D landfills in Cumberland County:

Used oil – Take to the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Site, Wilkes Road Compost Facility & LCID, any county Container Site, or check with local car care centers to see if they’ll accept used oil. Contaminated waste oil must go to the HHW site.

Yard debris – Take to Wilkes Road Compost Facility & LCID or any County Container Site (up to 4-cubic yards weekly).

White goods – Take to Ann Street Landfill White Goods area or any County Container Site. Refrigerators and freezers must be empty and the doors removed!

Antifreeze – Take to HHW Site.

Aluminum cans – Take to Ann Street Landfill Baling Facility or any County Container Site.

Whole scrap tires – Take to Ann Street Landfill Tire Area.

Lead-acid batteries – Take to Ann Street Landfill Baling Facility, any County Container Site, or HHW Site.

Glass beverage containers – Take to Ann Street Recycling Center or any County Container Site.

Motor vehicle oil filters – Take to Ann Street Recycling Center, any County Container Site or HHW Site.

Recyclable rigid plastic containers that have a neck smaller than the body of the container, and that accept a screw top, snap cap, or other closure. (The prohibition on disposal of recyclable rigid plastic containers in landfills does not apply to rigid plastic containers that are intended for use in the sale or distribution of motor oil.) – Take to Ann Street Recycling Center or any County Container Site.

Wooden pallets – Clean pallets go to Wilkes Road Compost Facility & LCID, pallets with pressed board or painted pallets go to any Construction and Demolition landfill.

Oyster shells – Take to Ann Street Oyster Shell storage area for recycling.

Discarded computer equipment, electronics (any device with a cord) and televisions – Take to Ann Street Recycling Center or any County container site.
NOTE: Commercial Businesses cannot use the HHW Site or Container Sites.
If a load is found to have banned items in it, the driver of the vehicle will be required to remove those items from the load before leaving the landfill. If items are not removed, a fine of $100 for the first offense will be imposed; second offense will be $300 fine plus $100 special handling; third and subsequent offense(s) will be $500 fine plus $100 special handling.
North Carolina and Cumberland County take the bans seriously and Solid Waste Management personnel closely monitor disposal practices. If a load is found to have banned items in it, the driver of the vehicle will be required to remove those items from the load before leaving the landfill.
