Crown Complex

Crown Theatre and Arena Modernization Project

Building the Next Generation of Entertainment in Cumberland County

Cumberland County is investing in the future of the Crown Complex through the modernization and renovation of the Crown Theatre and Crown Arena.

On June 4, 2025, the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners voted to discontinue construction of the previously planned downtown Crown Event Center and instead pursue a comprehensive renovation of the existing Crown Theatre and Arena.

The modernization project will transform two of Cumberland County's most recognizable entertainment venues into updated, accessible and technologically advanced facilities capable of serving residents and visitors for decades to come. The project will preserve the existing locations while addressing aging infrastructure, improving accessibility and enhancing the overall guest experience.

As planning and design continue, this page will serve as the community's central source for project updates, renderings, construction information and frequently asked questions.

Why Modernize?

The Crown Theatre and Crown Arena have served Cumberland County for nearly six decades. While the facilities continue to host concerts, performances, sporting events and community gatherings, many building systems and amenities require significant upgrades to meet modern expectations and accessibility standards.

Following a review of the previously planned downtown Crown Event Center, the Board of Commissioners determined that renovating the existing facilities represented the best path forward based on fiscal responsibility, functionality and long-term community needs.

Project Goals

The Crown Theatre & Arena Modernization Project is designed to:

  • Modernize aging facilities originally constructed in the late 1960s.
  • Improve accessibility and ADA compliance throughout the venues.
  • Upgrade seating, acoustics, lighting and event technology.
  • Enhance concessions, restrooms and patron amenities.
  • Improve operational efficiency and event flexibility.
  • Support continued economic development and tourism.
  • Preserve a community asset that has hosted generations of residents and visitors.

Project elements may evolve as design progresses and construction plans are finalized.
