Board of Equalization Meets April 22, Tax Appeals Deadline May 22

The Cumberland County Tax Administration Board of Equalization and Review will convene on April 22 at 3:30 p.m. in Room 564, on the fifth floor of the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse, located at 117 Dick St., Fayetteville.

The Board of Equalization and Review will begin accepting Tax Year 2024 real property appeal requests from taxpayers who own or control taxable real property in Cumberland County. The tax appeals must be received or postmarked no later than May 22, which is the board’s final adjournment date.

Requests for a hearing before the Board of Equalization and Review must be made in writing and received on or before May 22. Send requests by mail to Tax Administration, P.O. Box 449, Fayetteville, NC 28302 or by email to taxrealestate@cumberlandcountync.gov.

Appeal forms can be downloaded from the Tax Administration website at cumberlandcountync.gov/tax by clicking on the “Forms and Publications” tab on the left side of the webpage. Appeal forms may also be requested by mail or at the email address listed above.

Completed appeal forms must be delivered in person or emailed to taxrealestate@cumberlandcountync.gov on or before the adjournment date. Appeals can also be mailed to Tax Administration, P.O. Box 449, Fayetteville, NC 28302. Mailed forms must be postmarked no later than May 22 to be considered. Signed appeals forms may also be faxed to 910-223-3343 or 910-678-7582. Completed appeal forms may also be placed in the secure drop box outside the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse rear parking lot accessible by Cool Spring and Russell streets.

All taxpayers who appeal their values will be contacted by an appraiser. If an appeal goes on to a hearing before the board, the taxpayer will be contacted by the appraiser and notified by letter, stating the date the appeal will be heard.

Property owners are encouraged to provide supporting evidence for consideration. Examples of evidence include appraisals, comparable properties, income and expense statements, cost estimates of structural repairs or pictures of the property showing other than typical conditions. This information will be considered to determine any effect on value established per the 2017 Schedule of Values.
