Public Health to Host "Vax Your Pet, Vax Yourself" Event Oct. 11

Sep 29, 2025

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County Department of Public Health will host its biannual Vax Your Pet, Vax Yourself event on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Public Health Center, located at 1235 Ramsey St., Fayetteville.

Vax Your Pet

Rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats will be available for $5 per pet. Only cash will be accepted as payment. Checks, debit and credit cards will not be accepted. Patrons are encouraged to bring exact change and avoid bringing rolled coins.

North Carolina law requires that “the owner of every dog and cat over four months of age shall have the animal vaccinated against rabies.” To remain properly immunized, a dog or cat must receive two rabies vaccinations one year apart, then one vaccination every three years. Dog and cat owners in Cumberland County fail to comply are subject to a $100 civil penalty.

While at the event, dogs must be on a leash, and cats must be in separate carriers or boxes. Owners may be held responsible for any damage caused by their pets at the event.

Vax Yourself

Vaccinations for influenza, RSV and COVID-19 are expected to be available at the event at no cost. No appointments are required, and walk-ins are welcome.

Fall Respiratory Virus Vaccines Recommendations

  • Public Health encourages individuals six months and older to get their seasonal flu shot.

  • A single lifetime dose of the RSV vaccine is recommended for all adults ages 75 and older and adults ages 50 – 74 who are at increased risk for severe RSV.

  • Pregnant women (32-36 weeks of pregnancy) and infants are recommended to receive the RSV vaccine.

  • COVID-19 vaccines are expected to be available during the event. Availability and eligibility guidelines for individuals for the COVID-19 vaccine will be based on final approval from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which are expected to be released by early October.

Test Yourself

The Public Health Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Express Clinic will be open during the event and offer confidential testing for HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, and other STIs. Testing is free, regardless of insurance status. To schedule an appointment, call 910-433-3600. Walk-in availability will be offered.
