FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County Emergency Services has received a $27,650 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation to help build local and environmental resiliency and to prepare for and mitigate against the effects of climate change.
Cumberland County is one of 10 organizations in North Carolina to collectively receive more than $600,000 in resilience accelerator grants from the Duke Energy Foundation. The grant will be used to install stream gauges and sensors at multiple locations throughout the County to help Emergency Management personnel prepare for and react to flooding and other related issues during severe weather events.
“We are grateful to the foundation for investing in our community,” said Emergency Management Coordinator Garry Crumpler. “The portfolio developed as a result of a joint partnership between North Carolina Office of Recovery & Resiliency (NCORR), NC Rural, local government, and numerous community agencies, aims to support resilience in communities.”
