Glenn B. Adams was elected to the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners as a District 1 representative in 2014. His current term expires in 2022. Mr. Adams served as the board’s vice chairman in 2016 and 2020 and chairman in 2017. Mr. Adams is a member of the Cape Fear Valley Hospital System Board of Trustees and served in an appointed position on the Cape Fear Valley Hospital System Board of Trustees prior to being elected as a County Commissioner. Mr. Adams is currently serving on the Fayetteville State University Board of Trustees. He is also the Chairman of Action Pathways Incorporated and Chairman of the Cumberland County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council.

Mr. Adams is a current or former Board of Commissioner liaison to the Library Board of Trustees, Cumberland Community Action Program and Public Works Commission, and is an appointed member of the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, the Southeastern Economic Development Commission and Alliance Health Board of Directors. He served on the Cumberland County Finance, Policy and Facilities committees and the Fayetteville-Cumberland Liaison Committee. Mr. Adams also served on the Mayors’ Coalition.

Mr. Adams has been involved in various professional and civic organizations. He served on the NCCU Board of Trustees from 2003-2011 and was Chair of the NCCU Board of Trustees from 2009-2011. His community activities include participation in KAPPA ALPHA PSI, Inc., E.E. Smith Giving Circle, Cumberland County Sheltered Workshop, Fayetteville Urban Ministry, Fayetteville Museum of Art and Fayetteville YMCA. Mr. Adams served on the Cumberland County ABC Board and has been a sports commentator for Cumberland County high school football and a mentor for the Cumberland County Young Lawyers Association.

Mr. Adams attended NCCU School of Law and received his Jurist Doctorate in 1984. He also attended N. C. State University and received his Bachelor of Arts in 1981. Mr. Adams also attended Oxford University, Oxford England in the summer of 1978. He is a member of the Cumberland County Bar Association and served as the Cumberland County Bar Association President from 2001 – 2002. Mr. Adams is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Advocates for Justice and Fayetteville Area Minority Lawyers Association.

Mr. Adams is a Senior Partner with Adams, Burge and Boughman, P.L.L.C. He has served as the Director of Recruitment and Placements at the NCCU School of Law and Clerk for the Honorable Clifton Johnson, N.C. Court of Appeals.

Mr. Adams is married to the Honorable Gale M. Adams, Superior Court Judge of the 14th Judicial District, and they have five children: Dr. Rachel Adams, Daniel, Leah, Joshua and Precious. Mr. Adams attends Smith Chapel FWB Church where he has served as the Treasurer, Youth Department President and Sunday School teacher.

Mr. Adams is the recipient of numerous professional and public awards to include the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, Lawyer of the Year - North Carolina Black Lawyers Association, Boss of the Year - Legal Support Staff of Cumberland County, Strathmore Who’s Who, Smith Chapel FWB Church Man of the Year and the Fayetteville Observer Readers’ Choice Award for Best Attorney. He was honored as an alumnus of the N. C. Historically Back College and University and named a “Living Legend”. In 2018, Mr. Adams was one of the recipients of the North Carolina Bar Association's Legal Legends of Color Award.

Mr. Adams is currently serving on the Fayetteville State University Board of Trustees. He is also the Chairman of Action Pathways Incorporated and Chairman of the Cumberland County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council.
