County Manager Outlines Preventive Measures

Mar 12, 2020

County Manager Amy Cannon updated the Board of County Commissioners Thursday, March 12, on the measures being taken by the local government to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The update followed a presentation by Dr. Jennifer Green, Cumberland County Health Director.

The County has emergency operation plans in place and management is reviewing and revising existing internal County policies and procedures in light of this public health event.

“There are many considerations. Our primary goal is to continue to provide services without interruption while protecting the safety and well-being of our citizens and our employees,” Cannon said. “We are developing different scenarios and options based upon the changing conditions.”

The plans include multiple “what-if” scenarios developed in conjunction with the court system and include identifying essential county and court services that will need to continue in the event of a closure.

Other measures already underway include:

  • Enhanced cleaning protocols in all County facilities.
  • Working with Department Heads on event and travel cancellation decisions. For example, the March to Work Job Fair scheduled for March 18 has been cancelled.
  • Installation of informational posters and digital signage in County facilities about COVID-19 precautions, including handwashing signs in restrooms.
  • Installation of a additional hand sanitizer stations in buildings.
  • Creation of a COVID-19 webpage on the County’s webpage and outreach efforts to educate the public.
