FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The following is a summary of the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners Regular Meeting held at 9 a.m. on Sept. 2, 2025, in Room 118 the Judge E. RECOGNITIONS

The Board recognized two retired employees for their years of dedicated service:

Marc E. Devone, Sheriff’s Office, retired May 31, 2025, after 26 years.

Cheryl McLaurin, Public Health, retired Feb. 28, 2025, after 30 years.

Child Support Agent III Julie Graham: The Board recognized Child Support Agent III Julie Graham for receiving a statewide award from the North Carolina Child Support Council. Graham secured the largest single child support collection in the state for SFY25, working with Texas Child Support to obtain a $160,062.68 payment that cleared arrears in a Cumberland County case. Graham, who joined the County in 2018 and has served in the Interstate Unit since 2022, has also helped Cumberland earn recognition on the state’s “Top 20 Monthly Collections” list in 9 of the past 12 months, totaling 16 large collections.

Community Impact Grant Program Award Recipients: The Board recognized nonprofits who received $1.395 million in Community Impact Grants. The grants, funded through Cumberland County’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) allocation, provide up to $50,000 per nonprofit to reimburse qualifying expenses. Applications were accepted Feb. 21 – April 1, 2025, and recipients were announced on May 19, 2025. Read more about the program and recipients on the county’s website. U.S. Army 250th Anniversary Proclamation: On August 16, 2025, Lt. Gen. Greg Anderson presented a proclamation honoring the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army to the Chairman deViere and the Board. This commemoration recognized the Army’s founding on June 14, 1775, and its long-standing legacy of service to our community and nation.
