Justice Services Holiday Safety Event Dec. 12

Dec 05, 2025

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Cumberland County DWI Treatment Court will hold its annual holiday safety event Friday, Dec. 12 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. in front of the Public Health Center at 1235 Ramsey St., Fayetteville. The event raises awareness of the dangers of drinking alcohol and driving, especially during the holiday season.

December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month. Cumberland County ranks in the top five of North Carolina’s 100 counties in the past five years for alcohol-related incidents and fatalities.

The event will feature the Booze It or Lose It bus, Cumberland County Sheriff’s impaired driving display vehicle and vendors. In addition, free haircuts will be available.
The Sobriety Treatment Court is a service of Cumberland County Justice Services and is funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance. The court provides a treatment system for high-risk DWI offenders who demonstrate destructive behaviors coupled with alcohol abuse. The court’s focus is to intensively monitor high-risk defendants awaiting trial and to actively supervise and treat convicted DWI offenders on probation. The Sobriety Court helps DWI offenders become clean and sober; rebuild their lives and learn about the dangers of alcohol. The program protects members of the public and offenders from the dangers of impaired driving.

Services provided by the DWI Court include:
* Intensive monitoring by probation and law enforcement officers
* Continuous alcohol and drug testing
* Mandatory curfew and curfew enforcement checks
* Participation in substance abuse treatment
* Weekly office visits and call-ins
* Required court appearances twice a month
* Participation in educational classes such as cognitive behavioral intervention classes
