Libraries are a Gift--WRAP it up this Winter

Nov 30, 2020

WRAP limited edition mugThe Cumberland County Public Library invites everyone to add some fun to the winter months with the annual Winter Reading and Activity Program or WRAP. WRAP launches Dec. 1 and goes through Jan. 31, at all eight Library branches and gives customers opportunities to win prizes for reading or participating in reading-related activities—all virtually, of course.

While the Libraries remain closed to the public due to COVID-19 precautions, residents may pick up program materials at the front of the locations during business hours.

WRAP will use the Library’s social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube for programming, including videos and interactive virtual events. You can view a calendar of events by visiting co.cumberland.nc.us/departments/library/events-calendar.

The Library is committed to connecting customers with the services they need during the pandemic. North Regional Library customer Julia Furman depends on curbside pick-up to help supplement her 6-year-old twins’ learning at home. Along with assistance from Youth Services Library Associate Robin McKoy, Furman checks out almost 150 books every two weeks.

“The resources are endless, and the customer service is phenomenal—there’s nothing like it,” says Furman. “I can tell Miss Robin what we are studying, and she researches and curates a collection for us.”

This continuous rotation of books is what Furman credits to keeping her kids’ interest in reading high and the added curbside option is safe and convenient.

“The WRAP program is a perfect starting point if you have never used the Cumberland County Public Library,” says McKoy. “The Library can fit every family and I enjoy finding that perfect service or resource for our customers.”

It is easy to participate in WRAP. Everyone will receive a prize upon registration and after completing required goals. Children and teens will record reading times, while adults will play Library Bingo. Participants can pick up WRAP participation forms at any Library branch or print the forms from home to track their progress. Prizes are one per person while supplies last.

“Public Libraries are a gift,” says Furman. “They offer the opportunity for endless learning and growth for all ages.”
