FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County has closed the Westover Recreation Center emergency shelter today, Sunday Jan. 25. This decision is based on ample partner shelter capacity, allowing the County to continue meeting community needs through established sheltering partners.
Cornerstone Christian Empowerment Center and The Salvation Army of the Sandhills will remain open and available for residents in need of shelter and warming services.
County Emergency Services will continue coordination with community partners to ensure sheltering and warming resources remain accessible as conditions evolve.
Weather Conditions
Cumberland County remains under a winter weather advisory. Forecasts continue to indicate freezing rain and sleet, with dangerously low temperatures expected to persist through Tuesday.
County Operations Update
All Cumberland County facilities, including the Court system, will be closed Monday, Jan. 26. County officials will evaluate operating hours for Tuesday, Jan. 27, and share updates as soon as possible.
Transportation Update
Transportation to shelters has resumed. Residents needing transportation may call the County Non-Emergency Line at 910-600-7299. For safety reasons, families with children must provide their own car seats. Transportation services may be suspended if road conditions deteriorate.
White Flag Shelters
Weather conditions continue to meet criteria for white flag shelters and warming centers. Operations may change depending on conditions.
