Public Health to Host Vax Your Pet, Vax Yourself Event April 18

Apr 01, 2026

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County Department of Public Health will host its Vax Your Pet, Vax Yourself event Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Public Health Center, located at 1235 Ramsey St., Fayetteville.

Vax Your Pet

Rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats will be available for $5 per pet. Only cash will be accepted as payment; checks, debit and credit cards will not be accepted. Patrons are encouraged to bring exact change and avoid bringing rolled coins.

North Carolina law requires that “the owner of every dog and cat over four months of age shall have the animal vaccinated against rabies.” To remain properly immunized, a dog or cat must receive two rabies vaccinations one year apart, then one vaccination every three years. Dog and cat owners in Cumberland County fail to comply are subject to a $100 civil penalty.

While at the event, dogs must be on a leash, and cats must be in separate carriers or boxes. Owners may be held responsible for any damage caused by their pets at the event.

Vax Yourself

Influenza, RSV, COVID-19, measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) and back-to-school school-mandated vaccines will be offered at no cost from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. No appointments are needed, and walk-ins are welcome.

Additional guidance and details include:

  • Public Health encourages everyone 6 months and older to get their yearly flu shot.

  • A one-time RSV vaccine is recommended for:

    • Adults 75 and older

    • Adults 50–74 who have a higher risk for severe RSV

    • Infants

  • Parents are encouraged to make sure their children are up to date on all childhood vaccines.

  • The MMR vaccine will be available for infants, children and adults.
