FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The following is a summary of the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners Regular Meeting held at 9 a.m. on March 2, 2026, in Room 118 the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse. Agendas and supporting materials are available at cumberlandconc.portal.civicclerk.com.
Commissioner Marshall Faircloth led the invocation and Pledge of Allegiance.
The Board received a Women’s History Month video presentation produced by the Public Information Office. The video highlighted women serving in senior leadership roles across Cumberland County Government and the Courts.
The Board recognized Miss Fayetteville Haleigh Jo Baker and Miss Fayetteville Teen Emma Taylor. Both thanked the Board for the opportunity to represent the community and shared updates on their advocacy work supporting teachers and veterans.
Chairman Kirk deViere recognized Sheriff Johnathan Morgan and Town of Hope Mills Commissioner Grilley Mitchell, who were in attendance.

Following Closed Session, Chairman Kirk deViere reported that County Attorney Rick Moorefield provided an update to the Board regarding the County’s lawsuit with Chemours. No action was taken.
The meeting adjourned at 9:37 a.m.
Chairman Kirk deViere will deliver the State of the County address on March 16 at 6 p.m., followed by the Board of Commissioners Regular Meeting at 6:45 p.m., in the Cumberland County Historic Courthouse, 130 Gillespie St.
