County Opens White Flag Shelters, Warming Centers March 16 - 19

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County, in partnership with the City of Fayetteville and community partners, will open White Flag shelters on Monday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 17, and Warming Centers March 17, 18 and 19, in response to expected below-freezing temperatures.

MARCH 16 - 17 WHITE FLAG SHELTERS

Cornerstone Christian Empowerment Center

  • Address: 111 N. Bragg Blvd., Spring Lake

  • Hours: 6 p.m. - 8 a.m. (Intake 5:30 - 9 p.m.)

  • Transportation: Shuttle service to and from the Fayetteville Cares Day Resource Center, 128 S. King St.

    • Evening pick up at 5 p.m.

    • Morning return at 7:30 a.m.

    • Dinner and breakfast provided.

The Salvation Army of the Sandhills

  • Address: 245 Alexander St., Fayetteville

  • Hours: Intake 5 - 9 p.m.

  • More Information: Dinner served at 5 p.m.The Salvation Army shelter is open to individuals and families and maintains a safe environment for all guests. Security screenings are conducted upon check-in, including verification against the sex offender registry, a breathalyzer test and metal detection screening.

MARCH 17 - 19 WARMING CENTERS

Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST) Lobby

Cumberland County Department of Social Services - Auxiliary Lobby

  • Address: 1225 Ramsey St., Fayetteville

  • Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.

  • Masks for face coverings are encouraged for those with preexisting conditions.

Cumberland County Department of Public Health - First Floor Lobby

  • Address: 1235 Ramsey St., Fayetteville

  • Hours: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

  • Masks or face coverings are encouraged for those with preexisting conditions.

Cumberland County Public Libraries

  • All eight libraries will open as warming centers.

  • Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Headquarters, Cliffdale Regional, Hope Mills and North Regional libraries are open Sundays from 2 - 6 p.m.

  • Hours: Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The Salvation Army of the Sandhills

  • Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.

  • When activated as a warming center, The Salvation Army will also offer:

    • Lunch at 12 p.m.

    • Dinner at 5 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to check on neighbors, older adults and individuals without reliable heat. Pets should also be brought indoors during freezing temperatures.
