FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County Solid Waste invites residents to help keep Cumberland County clean by participating in the Cumberland Clean Litter Pick-Up event Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, from 8 a.m. until noon.
Individuals or groups of all ages are encouraged to participate and have the choice to pick their cleanup location anywhere within the county limits. To register for the Dec. 2 Cumberland Clean Litter Pick-Up, go to cumberlandcountync.gov/cumberlandclean or email Tim Middleton at tmiddleton@cumberlandcountync.gov.
Participants will collect litter at their selected locations between 8 a.m. and noon. Cumberland County Solid Waste staff will collect and dispose of all trash bags.
Each volunteer will receive a neon event T-shirt, water, gloves, a reusable Cumberland Clean-branded tote, trash bags and hand sanitizer. Prior to the event, participants can arrange to retrieve their items from the Ann Street Landfill at 698 Ann Street, Fayetteville, and report directly to their cleanup location on the morning of the event. Solid Waste staff will also be set up outside the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse at 117 Dick Street, Fayetteville, on Dec. 2 to greet volunteers and distribute litter pick-up supplies.
“With the plastic pollution crisis, we should all make an effort to reduce plastic that is released into our environment. Microplastics can be ingested and inhaled by humans and animals, causing health concerns,” said Amanda Bader, Cumberland County’s General Manager for Natural Resources. “One way we can help is by removing the plastics in our homes and community and making sure they’re not littering our roadways and outdoor spaces.”
