FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County has temporarily suspended emergency transportation to shelters due to deteriorating road conditions.
This decision was made out of an abundance of caution as winter weather impacts continue. County officials remain in close coordination with community partners to ensure shelter and support services remain available for those in need.
White Flag shelter services remain open through community partner organizations. County Emergency Services will continue monitoring road conditions and community needs and will adjust operations as conditions allow.
Road conditions are expected to remain hazardous due to precipitation and extreme cold. Residents are encouraged to:
Limit travel and shelter in place when possible
Check on neighbors, older adults, and those without reliable heat
Bring pets indoors
Residents are urged to limit unnecessary travel.
Call 9-1-1 for emergencies.
For non-emergencies, call 910-600-7299.
NC 211 can help connect residents to sheltering, food, and emergency resources by dialing 2-1-1 or visiting nc211.org.
Updates will also be shared on the County website, cumberlandcountync.gov, MyCCNCGov mobile app, Cumberland Alerts and on County social media channels.
