FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County’s burn ban has been lifted effective 8 a.m. Sunday, May 3.
The statewide burn ban was originally issued March 28 due to hazardous fire conditions and increased wildfire risk. Recent rainfall and improved conditions allowed state officials to lift restrictions in counties where fire danger has decreased.
Residents who plan to burn yard debris or natural vegetation must obtain a valid burn permit. All permits issued prior to the March 28 burn ban were canceled and are no longer valid. In Cumberland County, burning yard debris is permitted only in areas where public pickup service is not provided. A burn permit may be obtained by calling the North Carolina Forest Service at 910-437-2620 or online at ncforestservice.gov.
Residents are urged to use caution when burning outdoors. Never leave a fire unattended, and avoid burning during windy or dry conditions.
