Library Dedicates StoryWalk® at Lake Rim Park April 11

Apr 21, 2023

FAYETTEVILLE N.C. – The newest StoryWalk® is open at Lake Rim Park. The Cumberland County Public Library held a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the StoryWalk® at Lake Rim Park on April 11.

The StoryWalk®, located at Lake Rim Park, 2214 Tar Kiln Drive, Fayetteville, is a half mile long walking trail featuring each page of a picture book laminated and displayed along the trail so adult and child can read the entire book together. It is the second StoryWalk® in Cumberland County. The first one was opened at Clark Park in October 2020.

The StoryWalk® is updated throughout the year, allowing families to read several stories. Picture book displays also feature early literacy and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) activities along with movement exercises.

“StoryWalks® are excellent additions to our community because they allow for us to engage with books and with literacy in different and active ways,” said Cumberland County Public Library Director Faith Phillips. “Our public libraries are committed to supporting, encouraging and engaging our community in innovative ways.”

The StoryWalk® is a community project led by the Cumberland County Public Library, in collaboration with Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation, and funded by a State Library of North Carolina Bright Ideas grant. This grant is made possible by funding from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) as administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (IMLS grant number LS-249980-OLS-21).

Visitors can enjoy the StoryWalk® at both Lake Rim Park and Clark Park daily during normal park hours. The StoryWalk® at Clark Park is located at 631 Sherman Dr., Fayetteville.
