FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The following is a summary of the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners meeting, which was held Jan. 2, 2024 at 9 a.m. in Room 118 of the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse.
The board recognized Commissioner Dr. Jeannette Council, Public Health Director Dr. Jennifer Green and Cumberland County Department of Social Services staff, who were all recently honored by the Cumberland County Partnership for Children during their 30 Acts of Kindness Awards Ceremony on Dec. 14, 2023. The ceremony was held in celebration of the Partnership’s 30-year history of supporting families and children in the community by providing resources, support and programming. Former Cumberland County Manager Amy Cannon was also recognized during the Dec. 14 ceremony.
Commissioners also recognized Marili Melchionne, executive assistant with the Cumberland County Public Library, who was recognized by the North Carolina Public Library Director’s Association (NCPLDA) as NCPLDA Friend of the Year for her work supporting the Library system through coordination with the Friends of the Cumberland County Public Library. Melchionne received the award based on nominations from several Friends of the Library Board members and former Library Trustees.
Human Resources Director Dominique Hall provided the Board with an update on the County’s upcoming Career Fair, which will be held Friday, Jan. 12 and Saturday, Jan. 13 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Crown Expo Center, located at 1960 Coliseum Drive, Fayetteville. The Career Fair is intended to generate interest in the County’s vacant positions following implementation of a Classification & Compensation Study that made the County’s positions more competitive with the market. Hall said the event is also intended to provide support to the County’s residents looking for jobs through initiatives including sessions on interview and career skills training, mock interviews and a community interview closet giveaway. She said the event will be heavily marketed via press releases, on social media, through radio and billboard advertising and internally within County facilities. The Board unanimously approved the following items as part of the CONSENT AGENDA:
- Approval to Pay Prior Year Invoices
- Approval of Budget Ordinance Amendments for the Jan. 2, 2024 Board of Commissioners’ Agenda
The Board went into Closed Session to discuss an Economic Development Matter pursuant to NCGS 143-318.11(a)(4).
