FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County Public Library will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new sensory play space at West Regional Library Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025, at 11 a.m. at 7469 Century Circle in Fayetteville.

  • WHAT: West Regional Library Sensory Play Space ribbon cutting ceremony

  • WHEN: Oct. 21 at 11 a.m.

  • WHERE: West Regional Library, 7469 Century Circle, Fayetteville

  • WHO: Media and community members are encouraged to attend

The sensory play space offers a welcoming area where children and families can explore a variety of auditory, tactile and visual experiences. The space includes calm lighting, interactive panels and sensory-friendly materials that encourage creativity and relaxation.

“We are excited to expand our sensory offerings to the western part of the county,” said Cumberland County Public Library Director Heather Hall. “This play space is a continuation of our commitment to creating inclusive environments where all children, regardless of ability, can grow, learn and thrive. We’re proud to provide a space that supports both developmental needs and play. I am so grateful to our grantors and I look forward to continued partnerships to uplift and support our community.”

The play space is open to the public and serves as an ideal space for children with sensory processing sensitivities and families seeking an accessible and supportive environment, ensuring that children of all abilities can enjoy meaningful play experiences.

The West Regional Library sensory play space is made possible by a $44,680 grant awarded from the William F. Bethune Charitable Endowment for Children with Disabilities of Cumberland Community Foundation, Inc.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will immediately follow Sensory Story Time. Sensory Story Time begins at 10 a.m. and features activities, books and songs tailored for sensory-sensitive children.

In addition to the sensory play spaces located at Headquarters, North Regional and West Regional libraries, all eight library locations have sensory items and kits available for use in the library to include a weighted lap-pad, noise-reducing headphones, sunglasses and various fidgets.
